When we are going through difficult trials, when tribulation strikes our life, when cold floods our soul and darkness surrounds us, it is easy to become lonely and helpless.

In such circumstances, it is difficult for us to feel the presence of God, and the words of Jesus on the cross “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?” come quickly to mind, because we feel that way.

However, this is not a real thing.

Jesus felt God’s abandonment because on the cross he bore all our sins, our guilt, and suffered the consequence of that guilt: separation from God.

And he did it so that you would never have to feel that way again, ever.

I know it’s difficult. I know it is hard and complicated to accept, but when you feel helpless remember the words of our Lord: “…And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age” (Matthew 28:20).

He will always be with you.
